What are you and your organization doing to resolve our need to develop Emergency Services leaders and managers in the 21st Century? The pressure on our organizations to do more with less is now more intense than ever, and the comfort level of having a good public sector job is less secure. One of the things we need to do to survive is to be come learning centric – both as individuals and organizations. 21st Century Leaders offers the services and products address the skill sets necessary for those at the first levels of management and leadership to thrive. We don't focus on budgets, strategic planning or incident command. As you grow in your organization those skills will be addressed at the Training Academy, the National Fire Academy or in colleges.
In fact the focus of our efforts is not even to manage those issues that require looking in the Book Of Names for guidance. The Book Of Names is the departmental SOP's that could easily replace the SOP title with a picture of the person who screwed up and thus that particular SOP was written. The tools and techniques that we teach are designed to help you and more importantly your followers avoid getting into the Book Of Names.
These essential skills learned, practiced and applied will improve you. Our classes are intended to enhance your performance and thus your crews. And for many of you, the fiscal restraints on your organization will necessitate your going "elsewhere" to get better. This is the place. Believe me, your organization will notice, and that will be a good thing!
With over thirty years active service as a fire fighter and medic, I can tell you for a fact, that my screw ups were rarely, if ever, made during an emergency operation. They were made when the smelly stuff was not hitting the circulating cooling device. In training, at the kitchen table, at a staff meeting, when trying to figure out what to do next, when avoiding trying to figure out what to do next, were all situations where I could have used these skills.
It all boils down to two things, it's not how smart you are, but how emotionally intelligent you are, and whether you can learn and apply some consistent and appropriate management and leadership skills, tool and techniques to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of your performance.
My stuff is not the be all and end of your development, but it sets you up to become a learning machine. If you are OK with doing some hard work, and looking inside your self and be willing to assess your own performance outcomes first, then you need to get some of my training and get better.
I have a philosophy: The true measure of your learning is not what you did the last time you had an opportunity to perform, but what you do the next time you have that opportunity.
So, if you're ready to get a lot better on the job and elsewhere, get in touch with us, and we will make a difference – together. I'll get that warm glow from you telling me how different and better things are for you, and you, well, you get to figure out what different and better is to you.
